An excursion from the Boutique Villas now and then is allowed, so to speak. Today we escape to the interior of the island, where it is especially beautiful when the lavender is in bloom. An enchanting scent of lavender, broom and rosemary bushes awaits us.  Mid-June is the perfect time for this, when the jet set is still rather absent. The fields are laid out in stone terraces and the blooming season starts around the end of May and lasts until the beginning of July. After the end of the annual lavender festival, it is harvested carefully and cautiously with a sickle by hand. The goal: to keep the quality high. In the past, lavender was still a kind of currency, that was during a time when there were still lavender kings and a bag of purple flowers was exchanged for a bag of gold, so the story goes as told by our tour guide. A special feature are the fields in the plains of Stari Grad, because the soil there is particularly fertile. Also, the land subdivision set in stones by the ancient Greeks remains still valid today and is under UNESCO protection. In the past, mainly wine was grown there, but today also olive, fig and almond trees.
